Body Piercing Sizing
Definitions:
- GAUGE: The gauge is the thickness of the jewelry (Usually the thickness of the wire the jewelry is made from but may also be the diameter of a plug or eyelet). From 20 gauge to 00 gauge, the smaller the number is, the thicker the jewelry is. After 00, the diameter of body jewelry is usually measured in fractional inches as shown below.
- LENGTH: Measured from the INSIDE of each ball on the barbell or banana.
Most Common Sizes:
- Eyebrow: The most common gauges for an eyebrow piercing are either 18ga or 16ga, with 16ga being the most common. Typical ring diameters and curved barbell lengths are 6mm, 8mm or 10mm.
- Navel: The standard navel jewelry is 14 gauge. Very few piercers will pierce a navel with a 12 gauge needle unless requested. The most frequent size jewelry for a healed navel is 10mm. 8mm" is shorter.
- Nipple: Nipples are most frequently pierced at 14ga. For females, common replacement sizes include 14mm or 16mm for barbells. For males, common replacement sizes include 12mm, 14mm or 16mm for both barbells and rings.
Ring Sizing
The most accurate way to determine ring size is to have your finger professionally measured with a ring in the same millimeter (mm) width as the ring you are considering purchasing. If you do not know your ring size and do not have access to professional sizing, our Ring Size Measurement Guide offers 2 alternate ways to determine your ring size.

Here are some tips to make your ring size measurement more accurate:
- Confirm the printed paper size with a ruler.
- Pull tightly. The sizer must fit snugly to produce an accurate size.
- Don't measure cold fingers. This is when fingers are their smallest.
- For the most accurate reading, measure your finger at the end of the day when it is largest.
